We Care About What??

Well, the football season has come to an end, and with a winner now determined for Super Bowl XLIV (44 for you non-Roman speakers) the "smack talk" is sure to die down. You probably know what I'm talking about: the name-calling, opinion-pushing, stat-quoting rampage that you can't seem to escape from about September to February. People sem to be so devoted to their particular teams, willing to go to battle and passionately defend a group of 52 men they probably never have and never will meet.

Even if it's not football, (or basketball, baseball, hockey, etc.), it's something that we can have theses insane, in-depth discussions about. How we feel about <> getting kicked off of <>, celebrities' actions, politicians' decisions, whatever...

In all that I've been involved in watching and hearing (and even a little smack-talking myself) about these recent pop culture events, I was thinking to myself: how much time do we waste talking about things like this? I mean, really? When we're 70 years old, nearing the end of our lives and looking back, or telling stories to our grandkids, are we really going to be remembering how upset we were that the refs made a questionable call during one of hundreds of playoff games? Or that so-and-so wore this preposterous dress one night during whatever awards show? Mmm... probably not. So why are we identifying ourselves with these ridiculous tidbits of useless information?

So then the question I ask my fellow body of believers is this: Why are we SO vocal about what TEAM we want to win, which songs we love, or even our disgust with what politicians are doing, but clam up, shut up and freeze up when a God topic is in play? Someone challenges how great our favorite quarterback is, BAM! we're there, shoving examples and stats in their face to prove they are. Someone mentions how abortion should be legal, we're "meh...," not wanting to raise a ruckus.

I'm not saying that talking about "non-Jesus" stuff is bad. Who doesn't enjoy a good movie quote battle or talking about how dumb a show is? :) I just think that we need to take a step back and assess what we're devoting our time and passions to.

Take a stand about something that matters.

Do you ever wake up one morning and think to yourself, "Is this REALLY what I'm supposed to be doing with my life??"

I have.

Thoughts to follow...

So I'm definitely ready for a homework-less vacation. I'm a little sick of sitting in a classroom on Saturdays! Yuck.

Random PROS/CONS:
Pros for going into school on Saturday: ROCKSTAR parking!!
Cons against going into school on Saturday: You're at school. On Saturday.

I really need to do stuff that's not even remotely related to schoolwork. This weekend was GREAT (after I left school, that is). Went to the winery with Beth, Emily, Carrie and Missie. THAT was a trip. Movie night/sleepovers are equally as fun. Then Sunday was action-packed, complete with a trip to the zoo with Abby, Nick, Nathan and Beth as well as Stargate/stir-fried chicken/hot chocolate time with Abby and last but not least, Zombieland.

Word to the public: If ever you have a chance to watch any zombie movie with Jeremy, take it. You will NOT be disappointed.

I need another friend-filled weekend adventure. This weekend is Jenna's bridal shower. Ca-RAZY! My friends are off and getting married. That should be fun. I also have a leaders' meeting. Those are ALWAYS a blast. Especially when pulp-free orange juice is provided.

But the weekend AFTER that..... I'm sooooo excited!!! I am quite possibly taking a day trip to Chicago!! Yayness!! Michigan Avenue exploration and ...are you ready for this?... MUTEMATH concert!! Yesss! I was so upset I didn't go to the one when it was at the Majestic. I gotta make up for it... in style! I hope all the details work out. I REALLY want to do this trip!
