Even if it's not football, (or basketball, baseball, hockey, etc.), it's something that we can have theses insane, in-depth discussions about. How we feel about
In all that I've been involved in watching and hearing (and even a little smack-talking myself) about these recent pop culture events, I was thinking to myself: how much time do we waste talking about things like this? I mean, really? When we're 70 years old, nearing the end of our lives and looking back, or telling stories to our grandkids, are we really going to be remembering how upset we were that the refs made a questionable call during one of hundreds of playoff games? Or that so-and-so wore this preposterous dress one night during whatever awards show? Mmm... probably not. So why are we identifying ourselves with these ridiculous tidbits of useless information?
So then the question I ask my fellow body of believers is this: Why are we SO vocal about what TEAM we want to win, which songs we love, or even our disgust with what politicians are doing, but clam up, shut up and freeze up when a God topic is in play? Someone challenges how great our favorite quarterback is, BAM! we're there, shoving examples and stats in their face to prove they are. Someone mentions how abortion should be legal, we're "meh...," not wanting to raise a ruckus.
I'm not saying that talking about "non-Jesus" stuff is bad. Who doesn't enjoy a good movie quote battle or talking about how dumb a show is? :) I just think that we need to take a step back and assess what we're devoting our time and passions to.
Take a stand about something that matters.
